Don’t Be Too Hard On Yourself

1445142314_04b4e8c3be   It is easy to spend much of your day beating up on yourself for past mistakes. We analyze that relationship that failed and relentlessly review all the things that we did wrong, or we look at that business decision that cost us so much and dwell on the things we could have done right. It is not going to get you any better. Once and for all stop being so hard on yourself. You are a human being and human beings have been designed to make mistakes. As long as you don’t keep making the same mistakes again and have a good judgment on letting your past serve you, you will be on the right track. Accept them and move on.

Many times we try to change ourselves by wanting to develop certain qualities and character that we see in others.

Well ask yourself one question, do you really want to develop that character? Will it really be you? Are you ready to face the circumstances? In this process we try really hard to be someone else that we often forget who we really are. We pressure ourselves on trying to become someone else and this could have an opposite effect on the people around you. If your ready for that, go ahead!

What my point here is, don’t try to become someone your really not. It’s human nature, we want to be like that cool guy or that man with the awesome personality. Learn to stay grounded and be yourself for a change. Embrace who you really are and your purpose here on earth. Give yourself some time. You will learn much more and will be respected for it.

As Mark Twain said,”We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it and stop there.” We shouldn’t be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove lid. It will never sit down on a hot stove lid again and it will also never sit on a cold stove lid anymore. Experience is the best teacher! Value it!

The best way to learn from your mistakes and grow as a human being, is to make a list of the ten biggest mistakes you made in your life on the left-hand side. And on the right-hand side, write down the corresponding lessons and benefits you gained from them. Make another list of the qualities you want to develop and ask yourself if you really intend to. Then besides each of them, write down the things you need to do to bring about this certain quality in you.

You will soon see that your life would not be as rich and colorful without the mistakes of your past. So be gentler on yourself and see life for what it really is- A path of self-discovery, personal development and life long learning!

Keep Rising!

Mistakes are life's greatest teachers. Similar to sitting in a classroom, you have the option to either listen and take notes or let the lesson pass by. Choosing to let it pass by usually means that you will be repeating that mistake again until you wise up.

Thanks for the article, I like your site.

Now, you have a great message here for me. Everyone makes mistakes; sometimes more as they grow up. But it's important not to make the same mistakes twice.

It may not be so simple. You will see many people doing the same mistake again and again we also do the same thing. Our perspective itself controls it. And we cannot change our perspective as it is ingrained in us from childhood. I have noticed a person’s good habits are his down fall and success.
Both are originating from same perspective.

@yeokeehui@gmail.com: I agree with that!
@ Abhijeet: Thanks Bro :-)
@Hariharan: Well, at the end of the day, perspectives differ with different people. Thanks for your feedback, Hariharan :-).
